Peter Ritzen, an internationally acclaimed Flemish composer, brings his music to St. Mary's
It is the most classic social event and one of the most popular ways to spend an evening; friends and strangers gather together in a crowded room to listen to music and enjoy refreshment. It is at the same time both a very social and very personal experience. Emotions and experiences are conveyed and shared through music in an unparalleled manner. Music is not only beautiful sound, but an audible expression of "that which cannot be said and that on which it is impossible to be silent,"( Victor Hugo) guiding men on a "Spiritual Odyssey" by which they share a common experience and discover new beauties and truths in themselves. This was the intent of the evening of music presented by the world renowned pianist Peter Ritzen and hosted by Acies; to invite everyone to enjoy beautiful music, wine and dessert and to leave refreshed, impressed and open to the influence of great music, intellectually, socially and spiritually.
Music is not only beautiful sound, but an audible expression of "that which cannot be said and that on which it is impossible to be silent,"( Victor Hugo) guiding men on a "Spiritual Odyssey" by which they share a common experience and discover new beauties and truths in themselves.
The program for the evening included:"Jesu, My Only Joy", BVV 147 by Bach,Piano Sonata No. 14, by Beethoven,"Prelude, Aria, et Final" by Cesar Franck,"Benedicion de Dieu dans la Solitude" and "Ave Maria", by Liszt,An original improvisation by Mr. Ritzen on "Et incarnatus est" from Credo III of the Roman Missal,And finally, Andante Finale for the Left Hand by Theodore Leschetizky based on Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor".
